Maren, who runs the Four Mermaids restaurant, has married her chef Friedrich. He prefers fine cuisine; she wants to offer home cooking. So when he plans a complex menu for the restaurant's 25th anniversary, Maren rebels. Her three daughters also show up, each bringing their share of relationship problems. But most important now is getting Maren and Friedrich back together before the guests arrive.
