Werner is loved by all in his idyllic coastal town. Only with his son Nils does he have serious problems. Nils still blames Werner for his mother's death. When a young woman, Inka, and her son come to the coast for a vacation, both Werner and Nils fall in love with her - a situation that ends in disaster. Since Nils breaks off all contact with Werner, it is Inka who, one day, tells Werner that Nils is suffering from terminal cancer. Only now do the two men find the path to one another again.
